Just some random doodles in Illustrator. It’s amazing how many elements I’ve done in Illustrator that I thought would amount to nothing, then find them useful in a design for a project.

I sketched out a few ideas then scanned in the one I felt most comfortable with. Everything was created in Illustrator at 72″x36″ and printed on our HP Plotter. It looks cooler on the wall than it does here.

This was done as a center page graphic for a trade show brochure. Click to view larger.

I was handed two spreadsheets with various contractors and capabilities which they wanted to include in the brochure as a “look at all this stuff we can do” type thing. But if there’s a sure fire way to spook people’s attention, it’s a spreadsheet. So I proposed doing more of a data visualization type thing (an aesthetic/process that is becoming hugely popular). I didn’t feed all the information into a DV engine because there was no time aaanndd I don’t really know how to work that code yet, so I drew up a few ideas and after some revisions, created the above graphic in Illustrator.

From what I hear, the people at the trade show loved it. Which to me, means that not only did it look good, but it got the message across. Given the time constraints combined with the amount of information to be translated, I’m comfortable with the output. Are there things I would change? Of course, but thats what deadlines are for!
