I said to myself that if I ever start a company, I would have a creative showcase every quarter or so, with anyone in the company that wanted to participate. They could create anything they want, a website, poster, drawing, video, poem etc … and at the culmination of that quarter, we would all get together and talk about the projects … their inspirations, thought process, reasoning. I think its a great way to take a mental break from client driven boundaries. Finally, at the end of the year, we would package the projects together and send them out to our clients (creator willing) … just to show that our jobs weren’t based on paychecks … to show them that this is something we really love to do.
My team at work has been struggling with monotony lately, so I brought up the aforementioned idea as a remedy. They immediately began to think of variations and offshoots , it was great to see everyone light up. We might even get into our own Copy and Paste type event … maybe even some Layer Tennis? I don’t know … I don’t know if we’ll have enough time.
So with that, we all threw three words or phrases into a hat (and by hat, I mean an AC control cover that an uncompromising temperature spaz ripped off the wall) and the word that was chosen was “Flow”.
My first reaction was to design a poster. Then I thought about researching particle dynamics in Maya and put together a water flow animation. Though lately, I’ve been fascinated with company branding, creating everything from a logo, to letterhead to little animations. So as of now, I’m gonna roll with that. I don’t know what Flow, as a company, does yet. But as I create stuff I’ll post it here to show how I come to my final project.
Really looking forward to this.
